Shortly after the European market launch of the electric C‑Class, the ICE model family (codename W206), sedan and estate, receive a comprehensive technical upgrade and a sharper silhouette with an expressive light signature.
With a sharper presence, enhanced comfort, and a broad choice of electrified high-tech petrol and gasoline engines, as well as plug-in hybrid models, the new C‑Class is designed to suit different customer lifestyles.
All engines have been further developed with a focus on efficiency, performance and regulatory readiness, including preparation for upcoming EU7 requirements.
In Germany, ordering for all engine variants begins on 18 August 2026 with a starting price of €48,844 for the sedan. There are no tariffs for the Belux yet, and no timing yet for its introduction here.

A small S-Class?
A new, bigger radiator grille with a chrome surround and contour lighting, headlamps with a star design, and a powerfully sculpted front apron give the new C‑Class a more expressive presence akin to the recent update the Mercedes S-Class underwent. Depending on the market, the central star is also illuminated.
Apparently, there’s no longer a version with the star on top of the hood, while this feature has made a comeback in recent Mercedes updates. The sedan also has the Mercedes star incorporated in the rear lights; the estate doesn’t.

Mercedes-Benz has carefully evolved the interior of the new C‑Class. The design incorporates highlights from the new S-Class while continuing to develop the sporty DNA of the C‑Class interior.
The 31.2-centimeter (12.3-inch) instrument cluster presents all relevant information in high resolution. The 30.2-centimeter (11.9-inch) portrait-format center display provides access to all key vehicle functions. But, luckily, no super- or hyperscreen here.
The new multifunction steering wheel is more ergonomic and straightforward to use. Rocker switches operate cruise control and Distronic, while a roller controls the volume.
“Digital functions and physical controls take ease of operation to a new level,” says Mercedes, thereby indirectly referring to the criticisms uttered about the former steering wheel controls.
Powered by MB.OS, the new C‑Class features the fourth generation of MBUX. It combines artificial intelligence (AI) from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini in the in-car infotainment system. An enhanced Burmester® 3D Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos, 15 loudspeakers, and a 710-watt amplifier is an option.

Electrified high-tech ICE
The combustion engine portfolio includes mild-hybrid high-tech four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines in various output levels. All engines are equipped with the second-generation integrated starter-generator (ISG 2.0), which provides up to 17 kW of additional output and 205 Nm of additional torque. It also supports the combustion engine at lower engine speeds.
Together with exhaust-gas turbocharging, this ensures a more responsive response and more efficient load transitions. The 48-volt electrical system enables functions such as coasting and recuperation, helping to achieve significant fuel savings.
The further developed M 254 EVO four-cylinder gasoline engine has a displacement of two liters and features a newly developed electric auxiliary compressor, which delivers strong pulling power even at low engine speeds. It specifically bridges the delay typically associated with the turbocharger (turbo lag) and delivers linear power, especially when moving off, accelerating out of corners, or performing intermediate sprints.
In the new C‑Class, the gasoline engine is available in three output levels. In the most powerful model, the C 300, it delivers 190 kW (258 hp) and a rated torque of 400 Nm. The C 250 develops 160 kW (218 hp) and a maximum torque of 320 Nm, while the C 200 offers 130 kW (177 hp) and 270 Nm.
The further-developed four-cylinder diesel engine (OM 654 EVO) is available in two output variants: 120 kW (163 hp) and 147 kW (200 hp). A variable-turbine-geometry turbocharger and 2,200-bar common-rail direct injection optimize response, combustion, emissions, and consumption while being compatible with HVO100, B10, and B20 biofuels.
PHEV: up to 100 km electric range, no diesel anymore?
The plug-in hybrid models of the C‑Class combine the further-developed four-cylinder gasoline engine with a powerful electric motor and are available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
The C 400 e 4MATIC Saloon and the C 400 e 4MATIC Estate deliver a system output of up to 290 kW (395 hp) and system torque of up to 650 Nm. The high-voltage battery, with a usable energy content of 19.53 kWh, enables an electric range of up to 100 kilometers, according to WLTP.
The plug-in hybrids can be charged with up to 11 kW at AC charging points, such as a home wallbox, and, particularly convenient for everyday use, with up to 55 kW at public DC fast-charging stations.
Mercedes hasn’t given any information yet about the less powerful PHEV gasoline models like the C 300 e, but there is also no word about the fairly popular C 300 de, a plug-in hybrid combined with the 2-liter diesel engine. Will it disappear from the catalog?

More agile and maneuverable
The new ICE C‑Class is also more agile and aims to offer more driving pleasure on winding roads. Mercedes‑Benz has specifically optimized the suspension for greater dynamism while maintaining its long-distance comfort.
Building on its predecessor, the updated C‑Class continues to offer rear-axle steering. Still rare in this segment, this technology further enhances agility and maneuverability.
With a steering angle of up to 2.5 degrees, it reduces the turning circle by 43 centimeters to 10.64 meters. Thanks to the more direct steering ratio at the front axle, the driver needs fewer steering wheel turns from lock to lock.
At speeds below 100 kph, the rear wheels steer in the opposite direction to the front wheels. This virtually shortens the wheelbase, making the vehicle more maneuverable, light-footed, and agile.
At speeds above 100 kph, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels. The resulting virtually extended wheelbase offers noticeable benefits: increased driving stability and safety at high speeds, during rapid lane changes or sudden evasive maneuvers.
