Alpine explores its options with the A310 Vision concept

Alpine, the sporty branch of the Renault Group, has unveiled the A310 Vision at the Paris Motor Show 2026. The electric sports car concept harks back to the original A310, which was launched exactly 55 years ago in 4-cylinder trim, and 50 years ago in the iconic V6 form.

While Alpine is still working on the electric successor to its A110 sports car, it might already be thinking about expanding the line-up. And even if the retro-futuristic electric A310 Vision concept is not a prelude to a production model, it does explore the brand’s future possibilities.

The concept has to showcase the flexible possibilities of the modular Alpine Performance Platform (APP) that the future electric A110 will introduce. The proportions of the A310 Vision are impressive: 4.55 m long, 2.03 m wide at the rear, and only 1.18 m high, with distinctive wheel arches.

Historic design inspiration

Alpine says it wanted to reinterpret its heritage without nostalgia, but the A310 Vision retains numerous design features from the original GT car it launched in 1971. The typical angular seventies lines, a bulky rear, and full-metal wheels with a stylized A-logo, for example.

The retro nods are combined with modern touches and racing details. The headlights look as if they are carved into the front, and an LED lighting element runs down the middle of the car, front to back, dividing the distinctive air duct in the bonnet. The doors are partly made of transparent plastic, and the wing mirrors are digital.

The lower part of the car and the distinctive aerodynamic features are painted black, contrasting with the aluminum upper bodywork. At the rear, the aerodynamic focus of the A310 Vision is very clear.

The big, tiered diffuser is inspired by Formula 1, and omitting the bumper shield leaves the rear wheels exposed. Even the blade-shaped rear lights have an aerodynamic downforce function.

“Not the announcement of a future production model”

While the original A110 and its modern reinterpretation remain the most iconic model in Alpine’s history, the brand sold more of its comfortable A310 models between 1971 and 1984.

After launching with a 1.6 four-cylinder, the car later launched with a 150 hp 22.7-liter V6 PRV engine, which was later enlarged and boosted in power to compete with the Porsche 911.

So could this A310 concept be the start of a new electric entry for the brand into the higher sports-car segment? Alpine could be exploring its options to extend the range beyond the current A290 and A390, and the future electric A110. But before you start dreaming: the A310 Vision will probably not make it into production in its current form.

Alpine clearly states that the A310 Vision is “an independent design concept, conceived as a creative exploration of Alpine’s heritage rather than the announcement of a future production model.”

And if the brand were to expand its line-up with an electric sports car above the future A110, it would surely have to be a 2+2, rather than another 2-seater…
