Toyota has revealed the production version of its second-generation C-HR, which shares the striking design and plug-in hybrid drivetrain of the recently launched Prius. The development work of this hybrid crossover was done by Toyota’s R&D Center in Zaventem, Belgium, while the production of the model will come from Europe.
De design of this new C-HR was previewed last December, when Toyota unveiled the C-HR Prologue concept car. Now, we can see that the striking design of the Prologue has mostly been retained for the production model, which also shares some similarities with the recently launched Prius and the bZ4X EV.
High-tech interior and connectivity
On the inside, the second-gen C-HR takes a step forward, too, with nicer materials and two 12,3-inch displays, with some personalization available for the driver’s display.
Wireless smartphone connectivity is also available, while the MyT-app allows for remote pre-climatization and even remote parking. Drivers can also pair their smartphones to the car instead of a traditional key.

Under the hood, the C-HR retains its self-charging hybrid drivetrains, with two flavors available: a 1.8 Hybrid with 140 hp and front-wheel drive, and a 2.0 Hybrid with 198 hp and the choice between front- or four-wheel-drive, supplied by an additional electric motor on the rear axle. The same drivetrains can be found in the Toyota Corolla Cross.
In addition to the traditional hybrids, the new C-HR also gets the plug-in hybrid drivetrain from the Prius, which offers 223 hp and a 66 km fully-electric range, according to the WLTP cycle, thanks to its 13.6 kWh battery. The second-gen Toyota C-HR launches at the end of 2023; no pricing has been announced yet.
