Volvo Group, the company behind Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks, has shared the 2024 sales results of both truck brands. And it has been a productive year, with positive figures overall, making Volvo Trucks the heavy truck market leader in Europe, both in electric trucks and overall.
Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks have been pioneers in the electric truck segment, with both brands offering a wide range of electrified vehicles.
Although the electric truck market is still marginal in Europe, with a share of only 1.3% of the total truck market, this strategy is paying off as sales of electrified heavy vehicles begin to grow.
Volvo becomes the top truck brand in Europe
Volvo Trucks can hang two trophies on the wall, as it has become the market leader in European heavy trucks. In 2024, it succeeded Daimler Truck (Mercedes) with a share of 17.9%, amounting to 56,331 Volvo trucks registered. The biggest markets were the UK, France, Germany, Poland, and Spain.
“Our new FH Aero trucks launched in 2024 are just outstanding. These trucks are available with electric, gas, and diesel powertrains and they have quickly become very popular on the market,” says Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.

Long-range electric Volvo truck coming soon
This is in addition to Volvo Trucks being the electric heavy truck leader for the fifth time in a row, with a segment share of 47%, or 1,970 electric Volvo Trucks registered.
Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Switzerland were the most significant markets. In total, Volvo Trucks has delivered over 4,800 electric trucks worldwide.
“We are proud to be leading the transformation to zero-emission transport. We have a strong regional, city, and construction transport electric truck portfolio. Our next electric truck to the market will be running longer distances of up to 600 kilometers on one single charge,” says Alm, referring to the next-gen FH Electric coming later this year.
However, more than just vehicles are needed to electrify road transport in Europe, according to the CEO. “To accelerate the shift to zero-emission transport, having the electric trucks ready is insufficient. According to our analysis, we will need 40,000 fast chargers along European roads for 400,000 electric trucks by 2030. We also need more efficient economic policies that make electric truck operations profitable for all transport companies,” says Alm.

Renault Trucks shrinks overall but grows in market share
Renault Trucks, meanwhile, can also bring out the champagne. Although the overall figures were down on 2023, with only 56,898 vehicles delivered worldwide compared to 69,859 the year before, Renault Trucks has increased its European market share by nearly one percentage point to 9.1% in the heavy truck segment (>16 tons) due to the dwindling overall market.
Renault Trucks delivered 1,628 units of electric vehicles, of which 1,003 medium and heavy-duty electric trucks, giving it a 24.2% market share in Europe.
With over 2,000 electric trucks ordered in 2024, the French manufacturer is confident that 2025 will yield even better results, especially with its 600-km ‘long-range’ electric heavy truck launch and the new Flexis light commercial vehicles.
