Mercedes to launch electric GLC at IAA before 2026 EV offensive

Mercedes is gearing up for the launch of its next generation of electric vehicles. The all-new electric GLC will make its world debut at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, alongside the prototype of the VLE minivan. And by next year, at least three other models should follow.

Mercedes has given a sneak preview of the all-electric GLC, coming later this year. The electric SUV will be the first model built on the MB. The EA platform features similar tech improvements to the all-electric CLA on the MMA platform. We’re not just introducing a new model – we’re electrifying our top seller,” says Mercedes-Benz Group CEO, Ola Källenius.

Over 640 km range, 800V fast-charging

And the figures are impressive enough. As is becoming the standard, the all-electric Mercedes GLC will feature 800V technology, which improves efficiency and allows for super-fast charging at over 320 kW. That should give you 260 km of WLTP range in 10 minutes. With a 94.5 kWh battery, the electric GLC should have a range of over 640 km.

To compare: the Mercedes CLA charges at the same speeds, but thanks to its slippery shape, it can recover up to 320 km of range in the same 10-minute stop.

More space and high towing capacity

But the next-generation GLC should be a lot more practical than the CLA. It has a longer wheelbase than the current-generation GLC, to create space for the batteries, which should also create more room in the back seats. Cargo space should improve, too, with 570 to 1,740 liters in the rear trunk. And there’s a 128-liter frunk under the hood to stow charging cables and other small items.

Mercedes has thought about towing, too: the GLC 400 4Matic with two motors and four-wheel drive should be able to tow up to 2.4 tonnes. That puts it ahead of most electric vehicles, although the upcoming electric Porsche Cayenne will have a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes.

On the inside, the all-electric Mercedes GLC will debut an optional “majestically floating next generation MBUX Hyperscreen”, which should look more elegant than the rather bombastic digital displays from the CLA. We will have to see at the IAA Mobility 2025 in September to be sure.

GLA or GLB coming before the end of the year, followed by C-Class EV

But Mercedes is not done launching new electric models. The all-electric Mercedes CLA, which debuted earlier this year, will be joined by its Shooting Brake sibling in early 2026. Before the end of the year, we’re also expecting the next-generation GLA and/or GLB, based on the same modular MMA platform as the CLA.

Next up is the all-electric Mercedes C-Class, built on the same foundations as the GLC. With the same 800V tech and efficient drivetrain, this mid-size saloon should achieve a driving range of over 700 km on a full battery. The C-Class will, of course, also be available as a more practical estate version.

First “true” electric AMG coming in 2026

Finally, AMG is also launching its first dedicated electric model in 2026. We already saw a preview of what we might expect with the Mercedes Concept AMG GT XX, a tri-motor super-saloon with over 1,000 kW (1,360 hp) and a top speed of over 360 km/h. The electric successor to the AMG GT 4-Door should remain pretty close to the concept car in terms of design.

After these all-new models, we’re also expecting facelifts for the EQE and EQS models, possibly converting them to 800V technology as well. In any case, they should receive the new in-house developed MB.OS software that debuted on the Mercedes CLA. Finally, the “little G-Class”, based on the same MMA platform as the CLA and GLA/GLB, is expected to be released by 2027.
