MG pushes deeper into EV family market with roomier S6 EV

Chances are high that you’ve seen this S6 EV before. In the summer, this SUV was inadvertently published on Euro NCAP’s test publication pages ahead of its official reveal. MG has finally unwrapped the full specs of its latest addition to its electric portfolio. It’s an SUV destined for families who have outgrown the S5 EV.

The S6 EV stretches 4.71 meters, placing it above its S5 sibling and close to rivals, such as the Peugeot E-5008 and Skoda Enyaq. Within the family, it’s a replacement for the Marvel R, which has left MG’s electric car portfolio this year, together with the 5 estate. The proportions of the S6 EV, with large windows, a short hood, and a tall, straight-edged cabin, draw inspiration from both a people mover and a traditional SUV.

Tactile hardware

Not a coincidence, because its footprint must amplify interior volume. Luggage capacity ranges from just under 500 liters to 1,910 liters with the rear bench folded. In single-motor models, there’s room for a 124-liter frunk in the front, which is gigantic for this sort of storage.

Inside, MG has tried to balance digital controls with tactile hardware after feedback on earlier models. A 12.8-inch central touchscreen works alongside a 10.25-inch digital cluster, while physical buttons manage core functions such as climate and audio.

The tall center console gives the cabin a more enclosed feel than the S5 EV, but overall layout and materials mark a notable step forward for the brand. Its operating system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which Chinese brands often overlook.

Not the fastest charger

All versions use a 77-kWh battery mounted in MG’s Modular Scalable Platform shared with the MG4. The single-motor model delivers 245 hp to the rear wheels and reaches 100 kph in just over 7 seconds. MG claims up to 530 kilometers under WLTP.

The dual-motor version raises output to roughly 362 hp, drops the sprint to 100 kph to around five seconds, and reduces range to 485 kilometers. These are all decent numbers to cope with the competition.

This can’t be said of charging, which remains a weaker point. The peak 144-kW DC rate yields a 38-minute 10-80 percent session, slower than segment leaders’. MG counters with a four-stage regenerative braking system that supports one-pedal operation. Alas, just like in the S5 EV, the latter can only be activated by fiddling with the menus of the infotainment.

Belgium in springtime

The Euro NCAP leak already predicted that MG pitches safety as one of the S6 EV’s strongest selling points. The model secured a five-star rating with high scores for both adult and child protection.

As for ADAS, MG bundles its full driver-assistance suite as standard, and includes adaptive cruise control, lane assistance, and emergency braking – at least in the already launched UK market.

Importer Astara has confirmed to Newmobility.news that commercialization in Belgium is scheduled for spring 2026 (with prices and equipment yet to be determined). Upper trims add a 360-degree camera system, and MG now lets users store personalised driver-assistance settings.

Those higher trims push the S6 EV into more premium territory with heated and ventilated front seats, heated outer rear seats, suede-effect trim, a panoramic roof, and an 11-speaker audio system.

MG’s biggest SUV in its range is expected to reach European markets in early 2026. The model must underscore that MG no longer relies solely on a bargain position. Pricing is expected to range from €38,000 to €48,000, depending on specification.
