Traxio & Febiac: ‘Used motorcycle market 2025 rebounds, new market stable’

New motorcycle registrations fell by 12.2% in 2025 (to 24,872 units) compared to 2024. However, 2024 was the best year of the past 15 years. The sector expects a strong start to 2026, thanks in part to the Brussels Auto Show, where nearly 20 motorcycle brands will be represented this year and at least 310 models will be on display, which will undoubtedly stimulate demand.

For new motorcycles, Flanders remains the largest region, accounting for 57.8% of total sales, followed by Wallonia (35.8%) and Brussels (6.3%). In 2025, Honda (4,287 units, an increase of +3.1%) remained the best-selling brand by far, ahead of BMW (3,392), Yamaha (3,058), Kawasaki (2,365), and Piaggio (1,369).

In general, we can say that 2025 was a good year because the new market held up well while the second-hand market grew again. The primary focus in 2026 will be on motorcycles at the Brussels Motor Show and on the impact of several notable new models and updates.

Used motorcycle market

Nevertheless, the second-hand market performed 10.5% better in 2025 than in 2024, with 66,329 units. The market has thus recovered for two consecutive years, but that is not yet sufficient to fully recover from the blow it suffered following the introduction of the second-hand inspection. The figures come from mobility federation Traxio.

The second-hand market is lagging with 15,107 units. In three years, more than 61,000 second-hand motorcycles were no longer registered in Belgium. That’s obviously bad news for dealers and consumers. It remains to be seen what will happen when the used-car inspection is abolished this year. 2026 will be an exciting year.

Flanders

Flanders was also the largest second-hand market in 2025 (59.9%), with Wallonia at 32.9% and Brussels at 7.0%. The figures are rising in all provinces, from +6.2% in Walloon Brabant to +14.1% in Luxembourg.

All classes are also higher than last year. The 125 cc class remains the largest, with a 31.5% market share, which is a good sign because this is often where future motorcyclists are situated. It is strange, however, that this class has taken a massive hit in the new motorcycle market this year.

The biggest climber is Piaggio (+15.8%), but Triumph (+13.7%) also achieved double-digit growth. KTM and SYM rose modestly by approximately 3.5%, and other brands achieved increases of 6.4%-9.5% relative to 2024. In terms of market share, Honda stands out substantially above the rest (16.7%).

The good news is that there was substantial work in the workshops at motorcycle dealers, and the motorcycle season is getting longer and longer.
