Kia’s first commercial vehicle PV5 drops its guard at EV Day 2025

Kia held its EV Day 2025 in Tarragona, Spain, where it unveiled every detail of its very first commercial vehicle: the PV5. The mid-size van will be available in several body styles, including a passenger and camper version, with a flexible interior and a range of up to 400 km.

After showing us the exterior design of its first van, Kia has now taken the covers off both the interior and the technical details of the PV5. That includes the new skateboard platform, called ‘E-GMP.S,’ which forms the basis for the multiple body styles available from Kia and conversion specialists.

Many body styles available

The Kia PV5 will be available in Passenger and Cargo configurations at launch. Later, more body styles like Chassis-Cab, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), Family, Crew, Drop Side, Box Van, Freezer Box, Prime, and Light Camper will all be available from Kia thanks to the Flexible Body System of the PV5 and the dedicated ‘EVO Plant’ for its Platform Beyond Vehicles (PBV).

The base Passenger and Cargo versions measure 4,695 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,923 mm in height (with antenna) on a 2,995 mm wheelbase.

A specialized conversion center for custom body styles is also coming, offering more niche conversions with the full Kia warranty. Kia is also collaborating with specialists like BraunAbility (body conversion), 42dot, and Samsung Electronics (software) to further serve its professional customers and maximize uptime.

No-nonsense interior, no removable seats?

Like its exterior, the interior of the Kia PV5 is very rectilinear, with straight lines and a fully digital cockpit. The infotainment system (12.9 inches) runs on Android Automotive and can install external apps, including business-specific applications.

In terms of space, the Kia PV5 Passenger features a three-row seat configuration, with up to 8 seats in total. The rear seats fold flat but are not mounted on rails, like with other passenger vans, so modularity is limited. Kia does offer several interior configurations, including a five-seater and even a six-seater in a 1-2-3 configuration for taxi services.

Up to 5.1 m³

The Kia PV5 Cargo will be available in three sizes: Standard, Long, and High Roof. The latter offers a cargo area of up to 5.1 m³, which is smaller than most traditional vans but on par with other ‘Car Derived Vans’ such as the Volkswagen ID. Buzz.

There is space for two Euro pallets, and the cargo floor is only 419 mm high. Double Cab versions and a partition with a sliding door are also available, which is useful for delivery services, which need to access the cargo area dozens of times a day.

The optional L-track mounting system makes it easy to mount and secure items in the cargo area, while V2L functionality allows for a power outlet that feeds on the PV5’s high-voltage battery for power tools and other such items.

43.3, 51.5, or 71.2 kWh, up to 400 km range

Speaking of the battery, three cell-to-pack options will be available: both the Kia PV5 Passenger and Cargo will get a choice of 51.5 kWh or 71.2 kWh NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) packs, with a promised WLTP range of up to 400 km.

The PV5 Cargo will also offer a cheaper 43.3 kWh LFP battery to lower its base price. All batteries power a 120 kW (163 hp) and 250 Nm front motor while fast-charging from 10 to 80% takes 30 minutes.

Coming in the second half of 2025

The Kia PV5 will enter production at the manufacturer’s Hwaseong (South Korea) plant later this year. Sales will begin in Korea and Europe in the second half of 2025. Other markets will follow in 2026, while the specialized conversion models will enter production sequentially between 2025 and 2026.
