Xpeng’s new P7 surges: 10,000 orders in under seven minutes

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng has set a new internal sales record with the launch of its new-generation P7 saloon, drawing more than 10,000 pre-orders just 6 minutes and 37 seconds after bookings opened. The response marks the fastest uptake for any Xpeng model to date. It highlights Xpeng as a new force to be reckoned with in the EV landscape.

The new P7 was officially launched in Beijing on Wednesday. Xpeng immediately announced that the model had outpaced all previous launches in terms of early demand.

For comparison, the Mona M03 required nearly an hour to reach 10,000 orders, while the G7 SUV achieved the same volume in just 9 minutes. And its predecessor, the popular P7+, which debuted in late 2024, needed nearly two hours to get 30,000 orders.

Xiaomi unbeaten

While the Xpeng P7 has broken the in-house record, the unbeaten hero in the broader EV segment remains the Xiaomi SU7. Hang on tight, that car secured over 200,000 (!) orders in just three minutes earlier this year.

Orders were placed without full pricing details. These will be announced later this month. Expectations point to a base price under €38,500 in China, making it competitive with the Tesla Model 3, Zeekr 001, and BYD Han.

Early adopters placed a refundable pre-order for just €13, which counts toward a €390 discount on the final purchase. Deliveries are expected to begin before the end of the year.

Best-seller

Xpeng is banking on the P7 nameplate to help solidify brand awareness with success. First introduced in 2020 and also distributed in Belgium, the original P7 became the company’s best-seller, positioning Xpeng as a full-fledged challenger to established EV players.

The new version is offered in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, underpinned by an 800V high-voltage platform. Awe-inspiring are the charging capabilities: all variants support 5C ultra-fast charging, allowing up to 525 km of range to be recovered in 10 minutes.

Battery packs are available from 74.9 kWh to 92.2 kWh, delivering CLTC-rated driving ranges of 702, 750, or a maximum of 820 kilometers.

There’s no shortage of power either. It is powered by a 270 kW (362 hp) motor in the RWD version, or a 437 kW (586 hp) dual-motor setup in the AWD variant. The latter propels the car from 0 to 100 km/hour in just 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 230 km/hour.

The processing power of the assistance systems tries to match that performance. At the heart of the P7’s intelligence are three proprietary Turing AI chips, which deliver a combined 2,250 trillion operations per second. These speeds help elevate the precision and smoothness of the car’s advanced driver assistance and real-time navigation systems.

Technology Island

Aerodynamically, the P7 achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.20—lower than even the Mercedes-Benz EQS—thanks to extensive wind tunnel optimisation and active design features such as flush door handles and a retractable rear spoiler.

Inside, the cabin showcases Xpeng’s latest ‘Technology Island’ concept, including a 15.6-inch touchscreen with motion control, an expansive 87-inch augmented reality head-up display, and rear seating with reclining backrests and a dedicated entertainment screen. The new P7 isn’t expected to arrive in Belgium before 2026. For more info on the model, click here.
