Online store Coolblue becomes green energy supplier
Coolblue, the well-known Dutch online supplier of electronics and household appliances, expands its services and now offers green electricity and gas in the Netherlands. The plan fits in with its ambitious goal to become the first energy supplier to help consumers save energy by suggesting energy-saving appliances and offering discounts.
Apart from electronic appliances, Coolblue also sells and installs smart thermostats and complete solar panel installations. In November last year, Coolblue started offering charging infrastructure at home, wall boxes for electric cars to be installed by its own dedicated team.
“Coolblue wants to become the only energy provider that makes more money when the customer consumes less energy,” Coolblue co-founder Pieter Zwart said in an interview in the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. According to Zwart, his philosophy makes everybody happy: the client, the company, and the environment.
Coolblue supplies chargers for wall-mounting or on a pole. Furthermore, there are classic options where the charger has a charging delay or balanced charging mode. There is also a split-billing charging mode via a subscription for business users.
Coolblue advises people about energy-saving solutions, like a smart thermostat. Two years ago, the company started installing solar panels, and recently. Charging systems for electric cars are a logical next step, explains Pieter Zwart. “We help people to generate electricity, reduce consumption, and to integrate on energy networks.”
Coolblue is convinced that its formula is unique and future-oriented. “We all have to manage energy more cautiously. The greenest energy is the one that is not consumed,” Zwart concludes.
“A ten-year-old washing machine consumes four times more than a modern one. Replacing old appliances, installing a smart thermostat, and some solar panels on your roof can easily half your energy consumption.”
Coolblue was founded in 1999 by the then student business administration Pieter Zwart, and two friends, Paul de Jong, and Bart Kuijpers. Today, the company operates one of the largest webshops in the Netherlands and Belgium and ten physical shops under the Coolblue brand.
The company’s key values are transparency, service, and playfulness. Coolblue’s motto? Anything for a smile (Alles voor een glimlach). Last year’s turnover was two billion euros.
