‘Smart to Antwerp’ app now more cyclist- and walker-friendly
The multi-modal route planner of the Antwerp mobility platform ‘Smart to Antwerp’ has received an update to make the app and the website more user-friendly. Especially the functionalities for walkers and cyclists are extended.
Those who indicate ‘walking’ can choose between ‘fastest route’ or ‘low-traffic route’. In the first case, the app will suggest how to move from point A to be the fastest way. But on top of that, they will get additional information about comfortable, recreational, and low-traffic alternatives. The app will also provide the estimated cost price, the number of calories burnt, and the number of steps to take.
Cyclists even have more options. As soon as they indicate ‘cycling’, they can choose between the shortest, quickest, most comfortable, or recreational route. The shortest route prioritizes the distance, while the quickest considers the existing bicycle paths, bicycle streets, and bicycle highways.
The most comfortable route tries to avoid cobbled roads, dirt roads, and mixed traffic with faster, motorized traffic. And the recreational trail will guide you via the official cycling junction network in Flanders and the Netherlands. The last two options sometimes make a detour to offer you a more comfortable or pleasant tour.
The route planner is meant to give you walking or cycling trips in the whole of Flanders. So you can even get interesting information for long-distance trips. Last year, about a million people used the ‘Smart to Antwerp’ app.
‘Slim naar Antwerpen’ helps to make the city of Antwerp more accessible. Anyone who wants to go to Antwerp will find tips and suggestions to avoid traffic congestion and find the smartest solutions to travel smoothly to the city. The initiative gets the support of several European projects to improve its mobility policy. Knowledge and expertise are shared with severe other cities, partners, and experts.
