Segway launches affordable e-scooters and e-moped
Segway, the producer of electric mobility solutions, launches three e-scooters and a moped. According to the company, they are affordable yet foreseen with the newest connectivity technologies.
Notable features are a color LED-screen and the fact that one can easily operate them by smartphone. Segway now offers eBrommers (mopeds) and eScooters, and the starting price for the most affordable moped is € 1 699.
With headquarters in Amsterdam, Segway chooses the Netherlands for the first introduction of the new portfolio because the scooter market for smart and green solutions is the biggest there.
Three scooter models
The new eScooter is immediately available in three versions, a basic one called E110S, the launch edition E110SE and the luxury model E125S. The entry price for the base model E110S will be € 2 199, offering a range of 75 km.
The launch edition E110SE is available at € 2 399 and has a slightly bigger battery, heightening the range to 97 km. With the temporarily available launch edition, one also gets a pair of Segway e-skates.
The premium E125S will cost € 3 499 and offer, among other luxury items, a second battery, augmenting the range to 140 km and an ABS braking system. All models can be ordered in 25 kph or 45 kph variants of the maximum attainable speed.
Dennis Hardholt, president of Segway-Ninebot: “This introduction makes electric scooters for the first time less costly than a comparable quality scooter with an internal combustion engine (ICE). We have high hopes for this product because three key factors are positively fulfilled: price, design, and technology.”
The Segway-Ninebot app, compatible with Android and Apple, gives all relevant info about the scooter. It indicates where he is parked and unlocks him automatically when one is in the neighborhood.
All models have Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS), an anti-theft system with integrated 4G and GPS-tracking that detects movements and gives info about what’s happening via the app.
The removable battery (for easy charging) sits low on the scooter, under the toe board, providing a low center of gravity. The use of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for the info screen and the lights lowers energy consumption.
These two-seater scooters are specially developed for the European consumer. There are 27 liters of luggage space under the large seat, enough to case two (not too large) helmets.
The special Launch Edition E110SE will be available in Dutch scooter shops from the first of April and sold as a limited edition. The two other regular models will be available in the summer.
Apart from the three scooters, there is also the new eBrommer, Dutch for a moped, the B110S. This compact, one-seat moped will cost € 1 699 and offers a range of 105 km. That’s cheaper than a lot of ‘premium’ e-bicycles today.
Like the eScooters, he will be available in two speed variants, 25 and 45 kph, starting in the summer of 2021.
