Record-breaking Belgian registrations of speed pedelecs
The registrations of speed pedelecs (1 257 units) in March 2021 were record-breaking: +57,5% more than in March last year. Even compared to the year before – in pre-corona times – the figures for this category of bikes are spectacular: +28,8%. Mobility federation Traxio published these figures in today’s press release.
Remarkable is that figures are higher in all provinces except for Namur. Although the numbers are small, in terms of percentage, growth is impressive in most Walloon provinces. In Flanders, Limburg (+65%), West Flanders (+39%), and Antwerp (+26%) noted most registrations.
Antwerp is forerunner
The leased (+16,3%) and company bikes (+10%) increased, but most speed pedelecs were registered by private individuals.
Speed pedelecs, or high-speed e-bikes as they are also called, remain particularly popular in Flanders: 95% of them are riding around in Flanders against 2,6% in Wallonia, and 2,3% in Brussels. Antwerp remains a forerunner as the city with the most – 783 – new registrations.
Traxio promotes the interests of the Belgian mobility companies. The federation has 9 893 member companies representing 100 854 employees active in sales and repair of new and second-hand cars, motorcycles, bicycles, bodywork, tires, fuels, spare parts, agricultural and horticultural machinery, civil engineering, and cargo handling.
