Dutch insurance survey confirms ADAS contributes highly to safety
According to the Data Analytics Center (DAC) of the Union of Insurance Companies, most driving aid systems contribute to driving safety. The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), as they are usually called, improve safety on the road and lower the risk for accidents.
The impact of a traffic accident on people’s lives is huge. Some of them suffer from lifelong consequences. According to DAC’s survey, driving aid systems can reduce traffic accidents by two-thirds and prevent half of the injured people.
Lane Departure Warning
Lane Assist and Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Collision Warning are the most effective systems to prevent car accidents. The first system actively assists the driver to stay within the white lines, and without it, the chance for an accident is three times higher.
Rear Collision Warning reduces the risk for an accident by more than 50% compared to drivers without it. Also, Blind Spot Warning contributes to traffic safety and reduces the chance of an accident by 33%.
Traffic safety policy
Richard Weurding, general director of the Union: “This survey shows that driving aid systems actually contribute to traffic safety and also shows how important data are for an effective traffic policy. We, therefore, call on the authorities to promote ADAS and to exploit the results of this survey for a better traffic safety policy.”
