BMW launches CE 04 electric scooter
BMW Group today launches the CE 04 electric scooter, its idea of a “silent revolution in electrically powered urban two-wheel mobility”. “The BMW CE 04 is our new electric star for the city. It combines an e-drive with emotion and motorcycling fun,” explains Oliver Zipse, CEO of BMW AG.
“The latest technology, and the best battery cells, which also provide power in the BMW iX. Just like the CE 04, all future new BMW Motorrad models for urban mobility will be pure electric,” Zipse confirms.
According to BMW, as the final series production vehicle of the BMW Motorrad Concept Link originally showcased in 2017, the BMW CE 04 opens up a new chapter in two-wheel urban mobility. It has an electric drive, a forward-looking design, and innovative connectivity solutions. Furthermore, the new scooter will try to merge transport and communication functions for a new mobility brand in the urban environment.
With a maximum output of 31 kW (42 hp) and a rated output of 15 kW (20 hp), the new BMW CE 04 has a motor that wants to offer riding pleasure. From 0 to 50 kph, it takes 2,6 seconds. Another variant has a reduced output, 23 kW (31 hp) max power, and 11 kW (15 hp) is available here. The maximum speed of both versions is 120 kph.
A battery cell capacity of 8,9 kWh provides a range of some 130 kilometers. But, strangely, the reduced output version has only a range of 100 km. Does it have a smaller battery, or is it less efficient?
The electromotor with a permanent magnet is similar to the one used in the BMW 225xe Active Tourer. Fully recharging an empty Li-ion battery will take 4 hours and 20 minutes at a regular socket. A quick charger is available as an option, reducing the charging time to 1h40.
The new CE 04 has ABS standard and also ASC (Automatic Stability Control). It limits the engine torque in relation to real wheel slip. As an option, the sporty driver can have ABS Pro (controls braking in bends) and DTC, Dynamic traction Control for more acceleration safety in banking conditions.
Three riding modes are foreseen: Eco, Rain, and Road. In addition, an optional Dynamic mode is also available for a swifter pace.
Readability, visibility, and connectivity
The new BMW CE 04 comes fitted as standard with a 10,25-inch TFT color screen with integrated map navigation and connectivity. It wants to provide excellent readability, clear menu navigation, and a highly integrated operating concept. The new screen makes it possible to display a navigation map in the instrument cluster, so no additional display is needed.
The lighting units on the new BMW CE 04 are based on LED technology. They include a headlamp for high and low beams at the front. In addition to a rear LED light, there are also LED turn indicators. The adaptive turning light Headlight Pro offers even greater safety at night, available as an option. Here, the rider benefits from further improved illumination of the road when cornering.
The new BMW CE 04 wants to embody a new, forward-looking form of urban two-wheeled mobility in its design. It features an innovative style and instantly identifies the scooter as a member of the BMW Motorrad family.
The modern surface finish is in a striking Light White, complemented by matt black sections. In addition, there are trendsetting (solid) wheels featuring a disc-wheel look and a side stand that is integrated into the design styling.
The CE 04 has a more striking color scheme in the optional Avantgarde Style. The color Magellan Grey metallic being supplemented with a black/orange seat, an orange wind deflector, and various graphics.
