Janssen Pharma rewarded as golden cycle-friendly employer
The Flemish Bikers’ Confederation (Fietsersbond) has awarded the pharmaceutical company Janssen the ‘Cycle Friendly Employer Certificate’. The site in Beerse is the first employer in Belgium to receive the golden reward.
The Cycle Friendly Employer Certificate was developed to establish a European standard for cycle-friendly companies. Together, CFE and Fietsersbond want to stimulate a cycle-friendly policy and to give priority to the bike.
Cycle Friendly Employer (CFE) Certification is intended to help European companies to improve the situation for employees that cycle to work. It’s a program of the European Cycling Federation, present in 14 European countries. It’s a European label, distributed in 16 European countries. In our country, it is distributed by the Fietsersbond.
Janssen Pharmaceutica, part of Johnson & Johnson, became the winner because the company has been pursuing an exceptionally cycle-friendly policy. And this has produced results. One-third of Janssen’s employees (33%) regularly use the bicycle for commuting. In 2019, this cycling attitude represented three million kilometers covered by bike.
The company in its turn stimulates the attitude by a maximum of bicycle compensation, a leasing formula with bicycle assistance for its employees, bicycle courses, maintenance, affordable apparel, bicycle insurance, and safe bicycle shelters.
Other cycle-friendly employers are DNS Belgium (the company that registers and manages Belgian domain names), the KBC headquarters in Brussels (bank), and the Flemish government.
