Iveco and Hyundai have unveiled their first collaboration for the bus market: the Iveco Bus E-Way H2, which runs on a hybrid fuel cell and battery-electric powertrain and is meant for city use. The new zero-emission bus was unveiled at the Busworld show in Brussels.
Hyundai and Iveco first announced their partnership for zero-emission drivetrains back in March 2022, citing a joint interest in electric powertrains, fuel cells, and more. In September of that year, the first result of the collaboration was shown: a fuel cell-powered Iveco Daily light commercial vehicle. Now, the partnership has yielded a bigger result.
Batteries and hydrogen combined
At the Busworld show in Brussels, which runs from 7 to 12 October, the Italian and Korean OEMs have unveiled the Iveco Bus E-Way H2, a 12-meter city bus that uses a combination of hydrogen fuel cell and battery power to transport passengers without harmful emissions.
The drivetrain consists of a 310 kW (422 hp) e-motor, powered by a 69 kWh battery by FPT Industrial (part of the Iveco group) and a fuel cell system by HTWO (part of the Hyundai group) with a total of 7.8 kg of hydrogen storage. Hydrogen and batteries combined, the total range amounts up to around 450 km in normal use.
The Iveco Bus E-Way H2 will be produced in Annonay, France, and in Foggia, Italy, although a launch date is not yet given.
