Zeekr refreshes beefed up 001 flagship and cuts prices

Swedish-Chinese Zeekr, the sister company to Volvo and Lynk & Co, and positioned as one of Geely’s premium brands, has refreshed and beefed up its 001 shooting brake flagship and cut prices in China drastically in the hope of doubling slacking sales to 230,000 cars in 2024. China is seeing a new price war in (N)EVs, which might blow overseas.

The cheapest version now retails in China at 269,000 yuan (€34,595) instead of 300,000 yuan (€38,575). In the Netherlands, this Zeekr retails at €59 490 (incl. VAT). While the design remains the same, the basic single-motor version is upgraded from 200 kW to 310 kW, allowing a sprint from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds instead of 6.9.

First Zeekr delivered in the Netherlands

In December 2023, Zeekr delivered its first electric car in Europe, an Electric Blue Zeekr 001 AWD Privilege, to a Dutch client in Amsterdam, where the company has its headquarters. Pre-orders opened in the Netherlands and Sweden on 28 June 2023, the first countries where the brand is present, with the first shipments leaving the ultra-modern factory in China in August of last year.

Zeekr intends to extend its European presence to six other countries in 2024 and eight countries by 2025. The first markets to follow are Norway, Germany, Denmark, and France. When Belgium will catch up is still blurry.

In July, Newmobility.news had the opportunity to test-drive the 001 shooting brake in Sweden, which turned out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothes, although it isn’t a jaw-dropping sports car at first sight. So far, there have been no official announcements that Zeekr will lower its prices in Europe, although that could be a logical outcome.

All on 800V architecture

Since Zeekr began delivering vehicles in October 2021 in China, the brand has sold over 170 000 cars by the end of 2023 of three models currently available there: the Zeekr 001, Zeekr 009 MPV, and Zeekr X urban SUV. The 001 shooting brake accounted for 76,246 units delivered in 2023 or 64 percent of the 118,685 Zeekrs delivered that year.

The 001 is offered in China in four trim versions, all using the 800V architecture now, offering faster charging. One with a single motor upgraded to 310 kW (415 hp) and the other three with dual motors, with a combined peak power of 580 kW (777 hp), sprinting to 100 km/h in 3.5 to 3.3 seconds.

CATL’s Shenxing Battery

One ‘WE’ version with dual motor gets CATL’s new Shenxing Battery with a 95 kWh capacity, offering a (CLTC) range of 675 km, claiming a 400 km range in a 10-minute charge. ‘Filling up’ from 10 to 80% should only take 11.5 minutes, adding 472 kilometers.

The other versions have the 100-kWh capacity Qilin Battery from CATL, needing 15 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%. The the single-motor version with the Qilin battery offers a CLTC range of 750 kilometers and the other two promising a CLTC range of 705 kilometers.

According to Chinese media, other hardware upgrades cover various areas, including a standard LiDAR on the roof, air suspension, audio, seats, and satellite communications.
