Škoda to enter €25,000 EV race with sub-compact SUV ‘Epiq’

It looks like the automotive industry is sounding the ‘all hands on deck alarm’ to win private buyers over to switching to an EV with a price tag of €25,000 or lower. Škoda joins the race with the all-electric Epiq, the second of six new electric vehicles scheduled for launch in the coming years.

For now, the Epiq is still a design study showing only a first glimpse of the new entry-level EV, a compact SUV of 4.1 meters long, promising 490 liters of luggage capacity and a range of over 400 km to seduce in families. Don’t rush to the dealer yet; the official launch is scheduled for 2025.

Due for 2025, after the Elroq

That’s all the technical specs you’ll get for now, as the announcement is meant as a teaser. It’s a sub-compact SUV, as the ‘Q’ at the end identifies it as a member of the brand’s SUV family (Kamiq, Enyaq, Kodiaq, Karoq). Another ‘Q-member’, the Škoda Elroq, a battery-electric compact SUV, will come first in 2024.

According to Škoda, Epiq will be the first production vehicle to feature a minimalist Modern Solid interior focusing on durable, practical, and sustainable materials. It will feature so-called ‘Simply Clever’ details, like a wireless mobile phone charger in the free-floating center console, different storing options and bag hooks, cargo elements, fastening hooks, and a hidden underfloor compartment in the back.

New design language

Oliver Stefani, Head of Škoda Design, is proud to present the new design language he and his team have crafted. He says: “Our new design language – Modern Solid – represents the next level of modernity. Attractive new looks and our sustainability approach harmoniously balance smart functionality and practicality. The Škoda Epiq design study perfectly embodies all the key attributes of the new design language.”

The Epiq SUV will be produced in the Volkswagen-Cupra factory in Pamplona, Spain, as a joint development and production project.
