BMW’s Vision Neue Klasse X concept leaked

In a few days, BMW will show the concept of its first SUV variant of the ‘Neue Klasse’, called Vision Neue Klasse X. Rumors have it that this iX3 successor will be the first car of BMW’s new EV class range to appear on the market by the end of next year, before the sedan of which we saw already the concept.

A picture leaked online shows a prominent nose quite different from the Vision Neue Klasse concept of the sedan shown in Munich at the IAA last September. Whereas the sedan has a finely drawn nose where the iconic BMW kidneys reach out to the car’s sides and integrate the headlamps, the SUV version shows much smaller (illuminated) kidneys in the middle again, clearly separated from the rest.

The whole nose is also much higher and bulkier than the sedan version, probably wanting to show the sturdiness and robust stance of the ‘Sports Activity Vehicle’ (the name BMW gives its SUVs).

First official teaser

The first official teaser of the concept focuses on its dashboard. The infotainment display mirrors the earlier Vision Neue Klasse, while the BMW Panoramic Vision head-up display sits at the base of the windshield alongside the rear-view mirror.

However, the Vision Neue Klasse X features a distinct center console, ultra-thin climate vents, a redesigned steering wheel, and a fresh color scheme blending white with orange.

As said, the production version of the Vision Neue Klasse X is anticipated to replace the fully electric BMW iX3, while a differently designed model will probably succeed the ICE-powered X3.

Of course, the zero-emission SUV will be built on the Neue Klasse architecture and will introduce the sixth generation of BMW’s eDrive system, incorporating 800-volt technology and round battery cells. The next-generation lithium-ion battery packs are expected to be smaller and lighter, offering a driving range of almost 800 km and 30% faster charging.

BMW has yet to officially announce a debut date for the Vision Neue Klasse X. Still, Domagoj Dukec, Head of BMW Design, shared the official teaser on his Instagram account, stating, “Can’t wait to show you this! Only a few days left!” This suggests the concept will be revealed during the BMW Group Annual Conference on March 21st, 2024.
