Yin Tongyue, chairman of China’s Chery Auto, said the Wuhu-based car manufacturer is planning to sign a deal with a premium European brand through platform cooperation.
“Two premium European brands want to use our platform, and a deal will be signed with one of them, which is a more premium brand than us,” Yin said.
EoX electric platform
Yin said the deal would be signed during his European trip, beginning on Tuesday, the 16th. He made these comments on Sunday during a live-streaming event promoting the new Exlantix ET flagship electric SUV sold by its Exeed brand.
The Exlantix ET is developed on Chery’s E0X high-end electric platform. In addition to the two brands with which Chery is finalizing partnerships, the state-owned automaker is in talks with two other brands over possible team-ups, Yin added.
Very active
The Chinese manufacturer seems to be accelerating its actions abroad in all directions. Chery is also nearing a deal to start building cars in Spain, its first manufacturing site in Europe. The news was confirmed by the Spanish government and lead negotiator EV Motors last week. Talks are focused on Chery producing vehicles at the Barcelona plant that Nissan shut down in 2021.
In its home country, Chery has a joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover to build Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles in a factory in Changshu.
