Smart shows Concept #5 in Beijing

The Smart Concept #5 is the brand’s most spacious and versatile vehicle to date. It will be presented to the public on 25 April at the opening of the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition in China. The presentation of the series production model of the third vehicle in the smart product portfolio is planned for the second half of 2024.

With its boxy, upright silhouette and distinctive structure on the roof, the appearance of Smart Concept #5 is both a commitment to performance and a practical statement of style,” says the press release.

Leave the city

With this concept, Smart apparently wants to leave the city and its outskirts to find more adventurous and longer roads. According to Smart, the new car will offer advanced technology, special outdoor functions, and unparalleled comfort.

With this vehicle, we leave the former frontiers behind us and open a new segment for clients in Europe and the rest of the world.”

800 Volt, +500 km range

The drive system will run on 800 Volt and have a battery capacity of more than 100 kWh net. Fast charging is, of course, possible, with a charging time of some 15 minutes for a charge from 10 to 80%. This middle large SUV  claims to have a range of over 550 km. The driver can choose between 5 different driving modes.

The boxy exterior design aims to reinforce the promised ruggedness and space, accentuated by features like visible underbody protection, a lighted rooftop, and a small step to climb on the roof. Off-road worthiness is emphasized by very short front and rear overhangs.

Maximum comfort and adventure

The interior wants to be very functional and comfortable at the same time. The man-machine interface is innovative, as is the driver’s seat, with its combination of new comfort and safety features. AI will provide a virtual drive assistant with relevant answers to all sorts of questions. The driver and the passengers can voice-activate a lot of important functions, about the car and also about the neighborhood or the world in general.
