Geely’s Farizon vans get 800,000-km commercial vehicle battery

Farizon, Geely’s commercial vehicle brand, has unveiled its ‘Black Tortoise Battery’. It’s a battery pack specially designed for light commercial vehicles, with a low pack height and, more importantly, a long-lasting service life of ten years, or the equivalent of 800,000 km. This new battery pack will be introduced to Farizon’s V7E and V6E models, and possibly the SuperVAN will be introduced in Europe.

The specific details of Farizon’s Black Tortoise Battery are not yet known. The company only reveals that it is equipped with a performant liquid cooling system that preserves the life of the battery cells, making them capable of handling 6,000 charge cycles. It likely features an LFP battery chemistry, but the brand does not confirm this.

More range, longer lifespan

Farizon says this new battery, which will become a paid upgrade on the V7E and V6E models, gives the large V7E van an estimated CLTC range of 305 km, with a more realistic Geely-tested range of 285 km. It might also become available in the SuperVAN, built on a dedicated EV platform, which is coming to Belgium thanks to importer Beherman.

Other features of the Black Tortoise Battery include a 150 mm pack height, essential for keeping the loading threshold as low as possible, a guaranteed service life of ten years or 800,000 km, and fast charging to a 200 km range in ten minutes.

It does come at a price, however. In China, the Farizon V7E starts at 112,800 yuan (14,400 euros), although it isn’t clear what type of battery this includes, while the V7E with Black Tortoise Battery gets a starting price of 149,800 yuan (19,100 euros). More information will likely follow as Farizon prepares to launch in Europe.
