Geely’s €10,000 priced Geome Xingyuan EV to challenge BYD’s Dolphin

In China, the fierce price war among the big car manufacturers raves on, with Geely throwing in a new weapon, the Geome Xingyan EV, for city dwellers at a bottom price of around 80,000 yuan or 10,170 euros. It’s targeted directly against BYD, which beefed up its popular Dolphin at unchanged prices starting at 99,800 yuan (€12,570).

Geome was previously an independent brand under Geely’s wings, next to Volvo, Polestar, Zeekr, Lynk & Co, or Lotus. Still, as sales were disappointing, Geely downgraded it to a model series.

There are two variants: one with an entry-level motor with a 58 kW (78 hp) and one with an 85 kW (114 hp) motor. There are two CATL battery choices: 30.12 kWh for a 310 km range (CLTC) and 40.16 kWh for 410 km.

Ample space for a city car

The Geome Xingyan is quite compact, measuring 4,135 mm long, 1,805 mm wide, and 1,570 mm tall, or just 10 millimeters longer and 35 millimeters wider than BYD’s Dolphin. It’s introduced with a new design language, featuring oval headlights and taillights, a minimalistic front, blackened pillars, and flush door handles.

With a wheelbase of 2,650 mm, there seems to be ample space inside. There is still room for a luggage trunk of 375 liters, expandable to 1,320 liters with the back seats folded down and a 70-liter frunk in the front.

Like the Dolphin, the Geome Xingyan EV features a large central infotainment touchscreen and a small dash display for the driver behind the steering wheel. The interior colors available are Sky Mirror White and Wizard Green.

The infotainment is powered by Meizu’s Flyme Auto OS, a Chinese alternative to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. It is significantly more dynamic and goes much further in synchronizing a smartphone with the car.

Debuted in March 2023, Flyme Auto was developed by Xingji Meizu Group, a joint venture between Geely’s tech firm Xingji Shidai Technology and smartphone manufacturer Meizu. It was first featured in the Lynk & Co 08, launched in September 2023, but only available in China.

Ice cream colors

To lure in young city dwellers, Geely painted the EV in ‘ice-cream’ colors called Vanilla Beige, Basil Green, Berry Powder, Milk White, Mousse Silver, Truffle Gray, and Sea Salt Blue. When they come to test drive one, they get a free ice cone as part of a collaboration with American ice cream brand Haagen-Dazs.
