Belgian speed pedelec start-up Specter to expand internationally

Specter, the Belgian manufacturer of specially designed speed pedelecs, has raised two million euros in new capital to expand its activities in Belgium and abroad. In addition to the existing partners, Fundracer Capital—a new party with extensive experience in the micro-mobility and bicycle industry—will invest in the start-up.

Maarten Baert, founder and CEO of Specter: “Together with our current and new partners, we are looking even further beyond our national borders. We want to strengthen and deepen our distribution network and continue to focus on research and development and expanding our product range.”

Expansion plans

Specter is currently active in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. With the capital injection, Specter wants to grow further within Europe and is also looking at the United States.

Specter also plans to expand its offer with new models. Specter currently offers four models: the Specter 1, Specter 1 Long Range, Specter 1S, and Specter 1S Long Range. The long-range variants have a driving range of up to 170 kilometers. Specter bikes are not cheap; prices start from €8,990.

‘Rolls Royce’

Specter bikes are aerodynamically built and have a unique design. They are considered ‘the Rolls-Royce among speed pedelecs’. They have a strong motor and many carbon fiber parts. Thanks to a carbon frame, the weight of a basic Specter model remains just under 20 kilos. The bikes are assembled by hand in Wondelgem, East Flanders.

Every Specter speed pedelec is electronically limited to the legal maximum speed of 45 km/hour. Riding a speed pedelec requires a helmet, and the bicycle must have a license plate and a rear-view mirror. Specter bicycles are available via 40 bicycle shops in Flanders and four in Switzerland.
