Next Citroën C5 Aircross also as an EV

Stellantis brand Citroën presented the upcoming C5 Aircross as a concept car at the Paris Motor Show. The carmaker will also launch it with a purely electric drive. The revised ë-C4 and ë-C4 X were also on display.

The C5 Aircross Concept shown in Paris features several design elements common to show cars of this kind. It is unclear whether the striking rims, the significantly flared wheel arches, or the flush-fitting door handles will be made into series production.

The concept is clearly a product of the new Citroën design language, with the redesigned logo and a headlight design that can already be seen on the ë-C3. The proportions with short overhangs, a slightly flattened hood, and a steep rear end for more interior space will undoubtedly not be changed either.

“The design does away with the superfluous in favor of the essential while emphasizing the new brand identity and a modern feel,” Citroën says of its new concept car. “With a length of 4.65 m, it boasts unprecedented proportions and offers plenty of space on board.”

Familiar technology

The car is based on the STLA Medium platform. For the technical data, looking at the Peugeot e-3008 or Opel Grandland Electric gives us some idea of what to expect.

The top version will probably use a 97-kWh battery for a range of up to 700 kilometers. The carmaker will likely offer cheaper versions with 73- or 82-kWh batteries. The STLA Medium has a 400-volt architecture, so the Citroën will have longer charging times than some competitors. DC sharing, for example, will be possible up to 160 kW.

Facelifted ë-C4

The brand’s new design language can also be noticed in the facelift of the ë-C4 and ë-C4 X series. The front end of both vehicles has been redesigned, and the new logo and brand identity have been integrated. “On the C4, the rear end has also evolved to deliver greater purity and substance, while the C4 X retains its already highly attractive fastback styling,” says Citroën.

The drive technology has not changed. The familiar 100-kW electric motor combined with a 50-kWh battery provides a range of 355 WLTP kilometers in the ë-C4 and 360 kilometers in the ë-C4 X. The 115-kW drive with a 54-kWh battery is also available as an option, increasing the range to 415 (ë-C4) or 425 kilometers (ë-C4 X).

Citroën also celebrated the fourth anniversary of the Ami at the Paris Motor Show by giving it a new face and some additional variants. We reported on the Ami separately a few days ago.
