Antwerp will launch the option to charge your electric car on location in the summer of 2025. The City of Antwerp granted the Belgian start-up Uze Energy permission to operate mobile charging installations—a large battery in a pink cargo bike. This means that from the summer of 2025, electric car drivers will be able to request an on-site charging session anytime, anywhere in the city.
Couriers will transport the movable batteries via sustainable means, such as cargo bikes or bicycle trailers. The company’s app allows users to order mobile charging sessions.

Users will then receive their invoice, calculated based on the duration of the charging session, the kWh consumed, the location, and any additional surcharges.
Antwerp is keen to focus on this dynamic charging method because the number of electric cars steadily increases. By offering mobile charging installations, every parking space can serve as an electric charging station. This relieves the pressure on public charging and limits the installation of fixed charging stations in the public domain.
