Geely brand and former Volvo sibling Lynk & Co, known in Europe for its monthly subscription model, is launching a new global flagship PHEV model: the six-seater SUV ‘009’. It is L&Co’s biggest model, 5.24 m long, 1.999 m wide, and 1.810 mm high. Meanwhile, the wheelbase is long, 3.160 m, allowing for three rows of seats. It goes on sale in March 2025.
This one uses Geely’s SPA Evo platform for large electric hybrid vehicles of over five meters. This allows for an extensive battery and advanced features like rear-wheel steering. So far, no details are given about the battery size and the full-electric capacity of the PHEV.
Up to 630 kW or 844 hp
The Lynk & Co 009 comes in three flavors: a base model with a 1.5T engine, a front motor with 160 kW, a rear motor with 230 kW (530 kW or 710 hp combined), and two models based on a 2.0-liter turbo (gasoline) engine.
One of these is a dual-motor version that uses a 123 kW electric motor on the front axle and a 230 kW motor on the rear (540 kW/724 hp combined). The other has three electric motors besides the ICE, the 123 kW in the front and two 160 kW motors in the rear. Here, we’re talking about a combined system power of 630 kW (844 hp).
This top version is said to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds and offer a myriad of special features like CDC continuous damping control, and thanks to the Lynk & Co digital AI chassis, functions such as a ‘waltz U-turn or crab mode.’
But the main emphasis will be on roominess. The Lynk & Co 900’s interior offers 6.16m², with seats on the second row mounted on rails that allow movement over 550 mm. The third row in the back is also movable over 125 mm and has an adjustable backrest for comfort.
Two 30-inch screens
Still, there is room for a 590 mm deep trunk, offering 300 liters of luggage space and a ‘hidden’ compartment of 20 liters underneath. According to Lynk & Co, there are 42 storage compartments inside the cabin.
The cockpit is dominated by a 30-inch, 6K frameless display that spans nearly two-thirds of the dashboard. The driver also gets a thin 12.66-inch instrument display panel behind the steering wheel and an augmented reality head-up display.
One of the most remarkable features is the 32-inch 6K entertainment touchscreen in the back, which folds down from the roof for passengers in the back. There is even a slide-out fridge available for those on the second row.
Lynk & Co is said to be a ‘global model,’ but its availability in Europe, as well as its prices and eventual subscription options, are unknown for the time being. First, the focus will be on the long-awaited fully electric Lynk & Co 02 for Europe.
Since October, you can buy or lease it for a competitive price compared to its siblings, the Volvo EX30, Smart #1, or the Zeekr X, starting at €35,495. However, the subscription formula hasn’t been offered yet.
The brainchild of Alain Visser
Under its Belgian CEO, Alain Visser, a former Volvo veteran, Lynk & Co’s USP was the car’s monthly subscription and easy-sharing capabilities, which were his brainchild.
Visser was ‘friendly ousted’ in December 2023 and is now working on something new that should go even further, as he announced on his LinkedIn page: “If you thought we made waves with Lynk & Co, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Stay tuned…”
Meanwhile, Lynk & Co, which used to be co-owned by Geely and Volvo, has untied from the latter and sold its 51% share in November to another Geely-daughter and sister company, Zeekr, in a deal worth approximately €710 million.
This move is part of a larger strategy by parent company Geely to streamline its electric vehicle operations and shift away from an acquisition strategy to boosting synergies across its brands.
Founded in 2016 as a joint venture between Volvo and Geely, Lynk & Co is older than Zeekr. The brand initially focused on hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles for its home market, where it managed to gain a foothold but below Geely’s expectations.
