Zeekr’s new ‘bruiser’ SUV 7X specs leaked before launch

Just a few days after Chinese-Swedish brand Zeekr unveiled the first pictures of its first luxury large five-seater SUV designed for the mainstream market, the 7X, its specs leaked through the Chinese regulator office that has to approve all new cars.

It’s a ‘bruiser’ of an SUV with profound dimensions (4,825/1,930/1,666 mm) and a wheelbase of 2,925 mm for ample space inside for five. It has the powertrain options of the 007 sedan’s 800 V high-voltage platform, up to 475 kW or 637 hp, and can tow up to 2,000 kg.

Eye-pleasing golden ratio

Zeekr claims it is designed with a golden ratio of 0.618, which is naturally ‘pleasing to the eye,’ like many things in nature itself. That ‘golden ratio’ has been food for mathematicians since ancient Greece around 300 BCE, but it has gained popularity in the last centuries among artists and designers.

Also known as the golden number, golden proportion, or divine proportion, it is a ratio between two numbers that equals approximately 1.618. However, it became popular among artists in 1509 when Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli published the book De Divina Proportione, which praised the ratio as representing divinely inspired simplicity and orderliness using illustrations by Leonardo da Vinci.

The underpinnings of this new SUV of Zeekr are the same as the Zeekr 007 sedan, based on the SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform.

It comes in three power variants: a rear-wheel drive version of 310 kW (416 hp), and a 75 kWh LFP battery from Geely daughter VREMT, another RWD, with 310 kW (416 hp), but featuring the 100 kWh NMC battery from the CATL-Geely joint venture or an AWD combining front and rear motors with maximum power outputs of 165 kW and 310 kW, to a total of 475 kW. That one gets the 100 kWh battery, too.

Mainstream model

This 7X SUV is offered as a mainstream model to – once again – compete with the Tesla Y, among others, and would retail in China between 240,000 to 350,000 yuan (30,334 to 44,237 euros).

When it will be launched in Europe is not clear yet. Still, as Zeekr has its headquarters, engineering, and design in Gothenburg, Sweden, it is no surprise it is already spotted camouflaged driving on European roads. It might be unsure whether it will retain its 7X name tag here as BMW most likely won’t be amused with it, sounding quite like its X7.

Zeekr’s 7X should be pleasing to the eye, as designed to the ‘golden ratio.’ Spanning the whole front, it gets the Zeekr Stargate interactive LCD screen /Zeekr
