For sale: a Tesla Model 3 disguised as a Mercedes 300SL Gullwing

It looks like an iconic Mercedes 300SL Gullwing from the fifties. Still, under its neath fiber coachwork, it’s a fully electric, genuine Tesla Model 3, including a touchscreen and Tesla’s Autopilot cameras and sensors for semi-autonomous driving. And there will be no second one anybody else can buy; it is a one-off.

It’s the latest creation of S Klub, a private Coach Design Studio in Los Angeles, Southern California. The studio designs and creates high-quality automobiles with’ a largely artistic perspective.’

One of a kind

“Each and every vehicle built by S Klub is one of a kind. We like to call ourselves Cartists,” they say on their website. But this one is even more special, as it is a first fully electric with all the Tesla power underneath.

Tesla powertrains are pretty popular in today’s classic car retrofitting business, but there the donor car is mostly the original classic car itself.

In this case, it is an entirely new car on a Model 3 skateboard, and even Tesla details like the steering wheel and the large display in the middle have been kept. So it only ‘resembles’ the original Gullwing – on the outside – as they are generally way too expensive collector cars to be used as donor cars.

Original sold for $6.8 million

A steel-bodied 1955 300SL easily carries an estimated price tag of 1.3 million euros, and the scarce aluminum-bodied versions are considered among the most valuable collector cars in the world. In 2022, one was sold at RM Sotheby’s Scottsdale auction for $6.8 million (€6.2 million).

The cost of this Tesla Gullwing Model 3 is not mentioned, but if you’re interested, as it is up for sale on their website and has deep pockets, here is the email address to inquire: [email protected].
