Two months after nine millionth, BYD builds ten millionth NEV

Less than two months after celebrating its 9 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) milestone, BYD has reached the next step: 10 million plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles have been built. The model in question was the newly launched Denza Z9 saloon, which will go to the CEO of Game Science, the game developer behind the massively successful Black Myth: Wukong.

BYD is experiencing monumental growth, with around 500,000 NEVs being sold each month, up from around 300,000 units monthly at the beginning of the year. For context: in May 2021, the Chinese manufacturer celebrated its 1 millionth NEV built when it was producing less than 50,000 units per month.

From small battery supplier to automotive world leader

At the ceremony to mark the rollout of its 10 millionth NEV produced, BYD founder and CEO Wang Chuanfu reflected on the nearly 30-year journey of the company, which started in February 1995 as a rechargeable battery supplier with just 20 employees.

Today, the company is the largest NEV producer globally and nearly the largest BEV manufacturer, falling just behind Tesla, with over 900,000 employees worldwide. It is also achieving success in Europe, with growth amid a dwindling market. BYD also had the very first plug-in hybrid in 2008, the F3e, starting its journey in the NEV market.

The honor of being the 10 millionth NEV from BYD goes to the brand-new Denza Z9 saloon, which will go to Feng Ju, founder and CEO of game developer Game Science, which rose to popularity thanks to the success of ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ earlier this year.

BYD and Game Science have a partnership. BYD is the “exclusive automotive brand partner” for the game, while Game Science receives funding to scan China’s cultural relics and monuments into digital assets for preservation and restoration purposes.
