Van Mossel ventures into Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Antwerp
The Dutch Van Mossel Automotive Group, one of the Benelux largest car dealer groups, is going to venture into Mercedes Benz Trucks also, with a new dealership at the Bisschoppenhoflaan in Deurne (Antwerp). In the Netherlands, Van Mossel is running four truck dealerships in the greater Rotterdam area already.
With the take-over in October 2020 of 42 dealerships from Alcopa’s daughters Fidenco in Belgium and Autopolis in Luxembourg, Dutch Van Mossel Automotive became the biggest car dealer in the Benelux. Selling 31 car brands, Van Mossel is the market leader in the Netherlands and Belgium’s number two behind D’Ieteren Auto.
‘Important strategic asset’
By buying Fidelis and Autopolis from the Moorkens family, Van Mossel mostly added Ford dealers to its portfolio, doubling car sales yearly in Belgium to 23 500 cars of 20 brands, spread over 68 dealerships.
Via the takeover of CAC in Turnhout and Pans in Brecht, Van Mossel was already active selling Mercedes cars and vans. “Adding Mercedes-Benz trucks is an important strategic asset,” CEO Erik Berkhof says. In Deurne, Van Mossel is currently renovating an existing property with a completely new workshop, offices, storage, and reception.
In the Antwerp area, this will be the second Mercedes Truck center, besides the one on the other side of the River Scheldt, the Mercedes-Benz Truck Center at the Katwilgweg.
