The 55 billion euros of fossil fuel subsidies handed out annually by EU governments threaten to derail the union’s ambitious climate plans, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) said on Monday. “Taxing energy can support efforts to combat climate change. But current tax levels do not reflect the extent to which different energy sources pollute,”
