Travelers can now test and help improve new features of the Belgian public rail operator NMBS/SNCB’s app before the features are integrated into the official app. They can test those new functions via the app ‘NMBS Lab’. That application is like the official NMBS/SNCB app but without the ability to buy tickets.
Users can already test two new functions in NMBS/SNCB Lab, which can be installed via the App Store and Google Play. The ‘Train Composition’ function provides travelers with practical information about the train they want. For example, the function shows whether the train is equipped with air conditioning, where the carriage has space for bicycles, or where the first-class carriage is located.
Two new functions
‘Don’t Miss My Stop’ is another feature that can already be tested. Passengers who do not want to miss their arrival or transfer station will be notified when the train enters that station.
“The benefits of NMBS/SNCB Lab are many,” says NMBS/SNCB. “Travelers can test new features for several weeks, and their feedback ensures that the functionalities can also be added to the official app much faster after a positive evaluation.”
NMBS/SNCB has been systematically expanding the functions of its app for several years. NMBS/SNCB Lab is the latest development of NMBS/SNCB’s Innovation Lab, which selects, tests, and launches new projects to improve the customer experience systematically.
