Peugeot presents new electric 7-seater e-5008

French carmaker Peugeot presents the new e-5008. Using the same recipe as its predecessor, this is a more extended version of the e-3008 with seats for up to seven passengers. Based on the same STLA Medium platform, the electric Peugeot offers up to 320 hp and 660 km of range thanks to a large 98 kWh battery.

Like its little brother, the new Peugeot e-5008 will also be available with a 48-volt mild-hybrid gasoline engine and a new plug-in hybrid variant for the first time. All versions will be built in France, and batteries will be assembled in France.

Brother from another mother

History goes on and repeats itself. That could be Peugeot’s motto, judging by their wave of new models. After the (e-)3008 inaugurated the new STLA Medium platform from mother group Stellantis, the new e-5008 is now available. As was the case for the previous generation, both vehicles share the same platform, powertrains, cockpit, and front fascia.

While both Peugeot SUVs share the same front facia, the e-5008 is more extended and has a square shape /Stellantis

The newcomer is an extended version of the SUV launched last year. Therefore, both share the same front end, with Peugeot’s typical LED signature and large grill. After the driver’s door, things change. While the (e-)3008 takes the shape of an SUV-Coupé, the new e-5008 presents a squared-off shape, with an extended roof and a chrome line similar to its predecessor. It’s also bigger, at 4,79 m, with a longer wheelbase of 2,9 m.

98 kWh and 660 km of range

Underneath that new sheet metal is the recent STLA Medium modular platform from the mother group, Stellantis. This means that the new e-5008 is now available in all-electric versions if the ‘e’ in its name wasn’t big enough of a clue. Once again, it shares most of its components with its little brother.

The Peugeot (e-)5008 will have three electric variants and a large 98-kWh battery /Stellantis

The e-5008 will be available with three different electric powertrains: 210 hp, 230 hp, or 320 hp for the dual-motor performance version. Peugeot mentions an estimated range of 500 to 660 km, awaiting WLTP homologation, and a 98-kWh battery. However, it doesn’t say anything about the battery size of the ‘Standard Range,’ but a quick glance at the e-3008 spec sheet tells us it’s a 73-kWh pack.

We know that AC charging is done at 11 kW or 22 kW as an option. Fast-charging peak power sits at 160 kW, which doesn’t seem fast for such a large battery. Peugeot says it’ll reduce the charge to 20 to 80 % in 30 minutes. Another important thing is that both batteries are from ACC and manufactured in France (Douvrin).

Not EV-only

Unlike most European manufacturers, Peugeot is adopting a multi-energy approach. This means that the new e-5008 will also be available with ICE powertrains – thus, it will be renamed 5008. There will be two options: a 136-hp 48-volt mild-hybrid 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine and a new plug-in hybrid version.

Like the e-3008, the new e-5008 features Peugeot’s latest i-Cockpit with two 10-inch screens.

A first for the 5008, this plug-in version uses a 150-hp engine with a 92 kW (125 hp) electric motor inside a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Peugeot is talking about an electric range of ‘over 80 km’.

Three rows and a new i-Cockpit

The new e-5008 removes nearly all the pages from the e-3008 handbook. Therefore, it features the same dashboard as the latest version of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit, with two 10-inch screens.

The new, more extensive, and longer Peugeot e-5008 offers space for up to seven passengers with a large trunk /Stellantis

Other than technology, the e-5008 offers more space. There’s a 60/40 sliding bench seat on row two with three adjustable backrests and two smaller seats on row three. Peugeot talks of a new Easy Access system with a single control on top of the seat, which makes access to the third row easier.

Moreover, with a body 15 cm longer than the previous generation, the e-5008 offers more trunk space. In a 5-seat configuration, there’s a cavernous 748 liters available, and there is still 259 liters of space when the seven seats are up.

The new e-5008 will go on sale in the autumn of this year. The range offers all three electric variants, the two ICE powertrains, and two equipment levels: Allure and GT.
