Hyundai’s Genesis shows Neolun and Magma performance concepts

Korean premium brand Genesis has revealed the Neolun Concept and GV60 Magma Concept. The first design study is a large luxury SUV with coach doors and a plush interior. What could become the future GV90 aims to rival the Mercedes-Maybach GLS with Royal Blue leather and a concert-hall sound system.

The second concept hints at future performance versions of Genesis’ models. The GV60 Magma Concept gets a specific body kit that considers aero and chassis dynamics, as well as a very orange paint scheme.

“Inspired by Korea’s porcelain jars.”

The Genesis Neolun Concept is not one to go unnoticed. This large SUV could become a future seven-seat, three-row GV90, but nothing is set in stone. According to Genesis, Neolun combines the Greek for ‘neo’ and the Latin for ‘moon’. Belgian head of Design Luc Donckerwolke says the concept was “inspired by Korea’s iconic moon-shaped porcelain jars.”

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but one thing that the Neolun Concept has in common with the moon is its size. This massive SUV is shaped like a rounded-off brick, with a few Genesis-specific touches, such as the double LED light signature. The body is finished in a two-tone color, combining ‘Midnight Black’ and ‘Majestic Blue’.

Ultra-luxurious

Inside, blue is also the color. There’s cashmere in Royal Indigo blue that blends into Purple Silk-colored leather. They are found everywhere, from the dash to those four plush captain seats. Access is easy through coach doors, which give a wide opening without any B-pillar.

The Neolun features an advanced “sound architecture,” not to say an impressive sound system. Each speaker, and many of them, is strategically positioned to create a “concert-hall-like feel.” There are no words on the powertrain, infotainment, and driving technologies yet. This concept is purely made to make future or current owners of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS salivate…

Performance…EV?

In addition to that massive SUV, Genesis also aims at performance cars. The GV60 Magma Concept is a body-kitted version of the Korean brand’s first EV that sets the first stone for the brand’s future performance line-up. According to the press release, there will be a Magma version of all future models. Judging by the pictures, they will all be finished in that very orange paint scheme.

The GV60 Magma Concept also features a specific exterior design. Although it might look like a wet dream from Mansory, Genesis says the body kit has aerodynamic and thermodynamic properties. New 21-inch wheels with air ducts to cool the brakes are fitted, but Genesis currently keeps any performance data or specifications behind closed doors.
