Digital boarding at De Lijn now possible

From now on, season ticket holders of the Flemish public transport company De Lijn can register their boarding or transfer digitally. This means that bus or streetcar passengers who have registered their ride or transfer in advance on busy lines no longer have to queue to scan their MOBIB card with the driver.

User surveys showed that users like to use their phones to register their rides. After all, the phone is often closer to the hand than the wallet.

Users can register their rides via De Lijn’s app. Because all vehicles emit a Bluetooth signal, the app will recognize that signal, which consumes little battery, from nearby buses or streetcars. When checked, the traveler can show a QR code, which counts as a ticket. There is no need to check out when disembarking, as this happens automatically.

Not yet available for all season tickets

Even if a ride number is not visible, registering the ride is still possible. And if a traveler is registered and the phone fails, he can still prove he has a valid ticket. This is because the registration is also visible on the MOBIB card. Using the MOBIB card without ‘digital boarding’ is also still possible, by the way.

However, not all season tickets are equipped with the new function. For example, some subscriptions apply to a specific area. ‘Digital boarding’ will probably be enabled for these subscriptions next week.
