Chinese EV-brands Voyah, Dongfeng, and Mhero drive into Belgium

Belgium welcomes the arrival of three new Chinese electric car brands in the same automotive group. After their debut in the Netherlands, Voyah, Dongfeng, and Mhero are officially available today through the Ghistelinck group network. The first brand store has opened in Eke, Ghent.

When the Dongfeng Group entered the Dutch market with three brands during the summer, it was immediately announced that Belgian customers would be targeted just a few months later.

Like many Chinese companies venturing into Europe, Dongfeng favors a partnership with a strong dealer group instead of a national importer (like BYD does). Where Gomes was selected for the Netherlands, Dongfeng partners with Ghistelinck Automotive in Belgium. This collaboration brings the same three fully electric brands and their models to Belgium, as seen in the Netherlands.

‘Strong reputation’

The choice to partner with Ghistelinck Automotive in Belgium is no coincidence. Ghistelinck is an established name in Belgian auto distribution and is already a dealer for well-known brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Audi. With the addition of Voyah, Dongfeng, and Mhero, Ghistelinck aims to strengthen its position in the electric vehicle segment.

“Our collaboration with Ghistelinck is precious,” says Kjeld Riegen, director of Voyah Benelux, the brand’s official name, though it’s a subsidiary of Dongfeng Motor Corporation.

“Not only does Ghistelinck have a strong reputation, but they also recognize the potential of our brands and act quickly on new opportunities. In Belgium, where premium brands are popular, we see a lot of potential for Voyah.”

Premium models for a premium market

Voyah offers two premium models in Belgium: the Free, a luxury SUV with a range of 500 kilometers from a 106 kWh battery pack, and the ability of bidirectional charging.

The Dream is a spacious seven-seater MPV with advanced safety and comfort features, an impressive length of 5.3 meters, and an enormous battery pack of 108 kWh for a range of 480 kilometers. Giugiaro designed both models.

Also for the upper segment is the Mhero I, a luxury electric offroader delivering an impressive 1,089 hp and designed for extreme terrains. It’s an offroader that dares to defy the electric version of the Mercedes G-Class.

‘For every stage of the driving experience’

For something completely different, Ghistelinck also offers the Dongfeng BOX, a compact electric city car with a range of 310 kilometers in its Launch Edition, and parades itself on unprecedented equipment in this price range.

With a starting price of 22,400 euros for the smallest battery (31.4 kWh, 230 km range), the Box competes with the Leapmotor 01 and the Dacia Spring—though the latter has become extremely cheap after Dacia lowered the price to 10.590 euros.

Vincent Yserbyt, CEO of Ghistelinck Automotive, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “The introduction of Voyah and Dongfeng aligns well with our strategy. At Ghistelinck, we want to offer vehicles for every stage of the driving experience.”

“These new brands expand our portfolio from low-budget to high-end luxury vehicles.” Dongfeng Motor Corporation is one of the largest car manufacturers in China, producing 3.5 million vehicles annually.
