Renault Trucks has announced a new long-range version of its E-Tech T electric heavy-duty truck. This version promises a range of up to 600 km on a single charge thanks to the incorporation of an e-axle, which frees up space for additional battery packs. However, there is an impact on the payload.
Until now, the maximum range of the electric Renault Trucks E-Tech T was 300 km, with a ‘daily range’ of 500 km, with one hour of charging during the mandatory driver break. This is about to double, with Renault Trucks taking orders for a new long-range e-axle E-Tech T from the second half of 2025.
E-axle, like the competition
The new e-axle model frees up space for additional battery packs by grouping all powertrain elements (electric motors, transmission) at the rear axle. Other long-range electric heavy trucks, like the Mercedes eActros 600 and the Volvo FH Electric, also use this technology.
It is no coincidence that Volvo Trucks also announced a 600-km FH Electric with an e-axle earlier this year, as both the Swedish and French brands are part of the Volvo Group. However, neither Volvo Trucks nor Renault Trucks indicate how big the total battery capacity of these long-range models will become. For context, the Mercedes eActros 600 needs 621 kWh for a 500-km range on a single charge.
Lower payload, but no specifics yet
Renault Trucks mentions that this long-range model will offer a lower payload than the other electric E-Tech T models, which will continue to be sold to provide a complete range of options. “We’re not looking to enter a race for autonomy on a single charge,” stressed Emmanuel Duperray, Senior Vice President of Electromobility at Renault Trucks. “Oversized batteries penalize the payload, raise total operating costs, and increase the environmental footprint.”
Orders for the new long-range Renault Trucks E-Tech T model will open in the second half of 2025. Production will be carried out by the Bourg-en-Bresse plant, which also produces Renault Trucks’ other high-end electric vehicles.
