Flexis, a collaboration between Renault Group, Volvo Group (Trucks, not Cars), and CMA CGM, has unveiled its line-up of electric vans. The Panel Van, Cargo Van, and Step-In Van are all based on the same software-defined ‘skateboard’ platform and feature a high level of modularity, an efficient electric drivetrain, and future-proof technology.
The name of the joint venture between manufacturers Renault Group and Volvo Group and French logistics company CMA CGM was announced in March 2024: Flexis. Rather than retrofitting existing combustion van platforms with electric drivetrains, Flexis aims to bring the light commercial vehicle market to the cutting edge of electric vehicle technology.

Three van body types
Flexis presented three models: the Panel Van, Cargo Van, and Step-In Van. They feature a simple yet modern design, while the skateboard platform allows for a comfortable driving range (up to 450 km WLTP) and fast charging thanks to 800 V batteries (up to 80% in less than 20 minutes). Other features include a low floor height, good driver ergonomics, and a high level of customization.
The aim of all three models is precise: the classic Panel Van will serve a multi-purpose role. Its low 1.9-meter height allows it to enter underground parking garages. Flexis also promises good maneuverability to make it usable in city centers.

The Cargo Van features a platform-cab design, with a large cargo box that can be suited to fit different needs in terms of dimensions and usage, such as refrigerated cargo bays for fresh food and medicine delivery.
Finally, the Step-In van is made for parcel delivery, with an increased height, front sliding doors, and a rear shutter door, inspired by American delivery vans like the Rivian EDV. Drivers can easily access the cargo area from the cockpit, with a 1.9-meter interior height, to walk upright (except for the tallest among us). It is based on the Renault Estafette Concept from 2024.

360-degree approach with cover-all digital platform
With the software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform, a large amount of data can be gathered and managed via Flexis’ digital platform, “FlexE Connect.” Flexis will offer services around four main pillars: uptime management, operational efficiency, energy and charging infrastructure management, and financial services. This proves the validity of Ford’s pioneering 360-degree approach with Ford Pro, launched in 2022.

Flexis will sell its light commercial vehicles directly to European customers and logistics companies. The first ten letters of intent from transporters such as Colis Privé, HIVED, and DB Schenker are already in the pocket, allowing Flexis to potentially sell 15,000 vehicles in the next three years.
The first customer deliveries are expected in 2026. The Flexis vans will be produced at Renault’s Sandouville plant, which also produces the Renault Trafic and related Nissan Primastar vans.
