Bicycle repair kiosks at some 30 NMBS/SNCB stations

In the coming weeks, bicycle repair kiosks will be installed at some 30 NMBS/SNCB train stations in Belgium. These stands will allow cyclists to carry out minor repairs to their bikes themselves.

The first stands have been installed at Duffel (Antwerp) and Enghien (Hainaut) stations. The stands are part of the NMBS/SNCB plan to make its stations smooth intermodal hubs where travelers can easily switch from one mode of transport to another.

From screwdrivers to Allen wrenches

The blue stands are equipped with a bicycle pump and tools such as screwdrivers and Allen wrenches. This allows travelers to repair bicycle defects as quickly as possible.

In August and September, there will be more bicycle repair stations. In Flanders, these will be at the stations of Beveren, Blankenberge, Bouwel, Essen, Geraardsbergen, Herentals, Ypres, Izegem, Landen, Lichtervelde, Mechelen-Nekkerspoel, Ninove, Noorderkempen, Sint-Genesius-Rode, and Wetteren.

In Brussels, such stands will be installed at Etterbeek and Jette stations. In Wallonia, nine more stations, including Braine l’Alleud, Braine-le-Comte, Jurbise, Louvain-la-Neuve, Luttre, Mouscron, Nivelles, Soignies, and Waterloo, will be equipped with them.

Up to 164,000 bicycle parking facilities

Some train stations have had bicycle repair kiosks for some time, but not from NMBS/SNCB. A few years ago, the province of Flemish Brabant installed such stands at some stations along the F3 cycle highway between Leuven and Brussels.

The public railroad company plans to increase the number of bicycle parking facilities at its stations by 2032 as part of its multimodality strategy: +30%, or up to 164,000 places.
