Peugeot bumps e-3008 and e-5008 range to near 700 km

French carmaker Peugeot has finished homologating the new Long-Range versions of its electric SUVs. Thanks to a larger 96,9-kWh battery, the e-3008 now claims up to 700 km of range, while the 7-seater e-5008 follows with up to 668 km of range.

The new 230 Long Range powertrain shared by the two electric SUVs features a more powerful front axle motor and a larger 96,9-kWh battery built in France. According to Peugeot, both SUVs are now best-in-class in terms of range.

STLA brothers

The Peugeot e-3008 and e-5008 share the same STLA-Medium platform—the latter is essentially the 7-seater version of the first—and the same powertrains. The French carmaker announced three versions at launch, but only the entry-level was homologated.

In addition to the entry-level 210-hp, 73-kWh battery powertrain, Peugeot offers a dual motor with up to 320 hp, which uses the same battery. However, the most interesting one—as has become common in EV news—is the Long-Range version. Today, Peugeot officially announced the homologated figures.

700 km of range

Thanks to a new, larger 96,9-kWh battery, the electric Peugeot e-3008’s range gets bumped to 700 km. That’s 175 km more than the entry-level version. For the 7-seater e-5008, the story repeats itself as the Long-Range version now claims up to 668 km (+166 km).

Along with that larger battery comes a more powerful motor. Still located on the front axle, the power is increased from 210 to 230 hp. That’s not much, but the aim here is range, not performance.

Made in France

More interestingly, Peugeot was among the first manufacturers to offer a large battery for a conventional SUV. The battery is built at the ACC Gigafactory in Douvrin, France. Despite its larger capacity, Peugeot ensures that the new battery doesn’t eat into cabin space as it’s only 15 mm thicker.

The larger battery shares the same charging power as the conventional 73-kWh battery. That means it will only accept up to 160 kW of power on a supercharger, which is a tad low for such a large battery. In practice, it should go from 20% to 80 % of charge in about 27 minutes.

Peugeot is keeping the prices under tight wraps at the moment. However, the new Peugeot e-3008 and e-5008 230 Long Range will be showcased on the stand at the 2024 Paris Motor Show on October 14.
