Chinese tech conglomerate-turned-auto manufacturer Xiaomi has unveiled its second all-electric model: the YU7, an SUV based on the popular SU7 saloon. The model was first leaked by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), after which Xiaomi CEO shared two official images of the YU7 alongside the SU7.
Apart from the MIIT’s leaks and the two official images shared by Jun, not much is yet known about the Xiaomi YU7. However, the design is quite striking, with a cab-rearward design that many are comparing to Ferrari’s Purosangue SUV. At the rear, we can also see some influence from Aston Martin’s DBX.
Large family SUV
However, the family ties with the SU7 saloon are clear. It has a similar front design and headlamps, a smooth profile, and a sporty rear end, with an LED light bar to finish off the look. The same basic elements are used for the YU7 but are molded into a more SUV-friendly shape.
Thanks to the MIIT’s information, we know the Xiaomi YU7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, making it a large family SUV. It should be no surprise that the YU7 weighs more than 2.4 tons.
High-performance dual-motor electric drivetrain
But, like the SU7, which set the four-door lap record at the Nürburgring earlier this year, the Xiaomi YU7’s performance should be impressive. The MIIT quotes a 220 kW (299 hp) front and 288 kW (392 hp) rear motor, or 691 hp, with a 253 kph top speed. CATL supplies the battery pack, but its capacity is still unknown.
More details, including pricing, will be made public later in 2025. Xiaomi is planning to launch the YU7 in June or July, as announced by the manufacturer on Weibo. With the popularity of SUVs, it seems likely that the Xiaomi YU7 will be even more popular than the SU7, for which customers had to wait up to seven months following high demand after its launch.
