NMBS/SNCB concentrates international train ticket sales in 12 travel stores

The Belgian public railroad company NMBS/SNCB will stop the physical sale of tickets for international train travel in nine stations starting in October. These are Arlon, Eurpen, Ottignies, Brussels-Luxembourg, Antwerp-Berchem, Courtrai, Hasselt, Mechelen, and Ostend.

NMBS/SNCB will concentrate on selling such international train tickets in 12 so-called ‘travel stores’.

Specialized travel stores

According to NMBS/SNCB spokesperson Bart Crols, the physical sale of those station tickets is declining. “After all, customers follow the broad social trend of digitalization and online sales. Part of the international range is also available via vending machines,” Crols says.

Consequently, from October 1st, NMBS/SNCB will concentrate on the physical sale of international travel tickets in 12 stations: Antwerp-Central, Bruges, Brussels Airport-Zaventem, Brussels-Central, Brussels-Midi/South, Brussels-North, Charleroi-Central, Ghent-Sint-Pieters, Liege-Guillemins, Leuven, Mons, and Namur.

Thus, these so-called ‘travel stores’ specialize in selling international transport tickets and can “provide customers with optimal personal advice on these products”.

De Lijn tickets are now also on the NMBS/SNCB app

From now on, tickets from the Flemish public transport company De Lijn can also be purchased and activated directly via the NMBS/SNCB app. This is “ideal for travelers who, for example, travel by train to the coast and then want to take the coastal tram,” says NMBS/SNCB.

Tickets for a trip or the 10-ride pass can be purchased via the app and activated for each trip.
