On New Year’s Eve, Flemish public transport company De Lijn is offering a 2,5 euros ticket that is valid all night. With the so-called party buses and trams, De Lijn aims to take travelers to their destinations in complete safety all night long.
Some lines follow their familiar route, while others have been specially adapted. The transport plan can be consulted on De Lijn’s website.
Free in Antwerp and Limburg
The New Year’s Eve ticket24 is valid on all De Lijn bus and tram lines from 31 December 18 pm until 1 January 11:59 pm. The ticket can be purchased via Lijn shops, ticket machines, the app, or text message. Flex transport and Hoppincentral also remain available.
In the provinces of Limburg and Antwerp, travelers can even use De Lijn for free that night due to a financial intervention by the cities and municipalities. However, the transport ticket must be required online.
Meir metro station in Antwerp 3 hours closed
Furthermore, partygoers in Antwerp should note that the Groenplaats metro station will close from 11 p.m. on 31 December until 2 a.m. on 1 January for safety reasons because fireworks will be shot off. De Lijn recommends traveling via the Meir metro station.
While on the subject, it is also the tradition in Brussels that MIVB/STIB public transport is free on New Year’s Eve, but the public transport company has not communicated about it for now.
