Maxus eDeliver 5: cute electric van with 1.1-ton payload

Chinese manufacturer Maxus has launched the eDeliver 5 in Europe. This compact electric van, with a bubbly shape, aims to seduce customers with more than just its performance.

The eDeliver 5 slots below the traditional one-tonne eDeliver 7, but still manages a payload of over 1.1 ton and a WLTP range of over 300 km.

Maxus, which came to Europe with its electrified commercial vehicles, is steadily expanding its model range in both the private and commercial segments.

After the Mifa 7 and Mifa 9 minivans, the eUniq 6 SUV, and the eTerron 9 pick-up, the Chinese brand (part of the SAIC Group) launched the eDeliver 5, a compact electric van first presented at the IAA Transportation back in September 2024.

New platform for Maxus eDeliver 5

The 4.8-meter-long eDeliver 5 is below the 5-meter eDeliver 7 and above the more compact eDeliver 3. It’s the brand’s first model based on the MILA platform (Modular Intelligent Lightweight Architecture), which maximizes payload and efficiency for electric vans.

However, there’s no modularity in terms of the body styles. Only one length and height of panel van is available, with a cargo volume of 6.6 m³ (with a 2.65 m long cargo space and 1.25 m of width between the wheel arches) and a maximum payload of 1,125 kg. The maximum towing capacity is 1,500 kg, while two side sliding doors are standard. The eDeliver 5 itself weighs 1.925 kg.

335 km WLTP range

The powertrain consists of a 120 kW (163 hp) and 240 Nm electric motor powering the front wheels. The compact unit reduces the front overhang to just 650 mm, which improves maneuverability.

The 64 kWh battery enables a WLTP range of 335 km, with a theoretical power consumption of 21 kWh/100 km.

Performance is smooth for a van: 0-100 km/h in 10.7 seconds, although the top speed is limited to 120 km/h. Charging is limited to 11 kW at a regular charging point and just 70 kW at a DC fast-charger, which takes 42 minutes to charge from 5 to 80%.

The interior of the Maxus eDeliver 5 is fully digital and features a complete suite of safety systems as standard / Maxus Motors

In terms of design, Maxus has chosen a cute, bubbly look not dissimilar to VW’s approach with the retro-inspired ID. Buzz Cargo.

Five colors are available (white, silver, grey, blue, and black), while the interior is fully digitized thanks to a digital driver’s display and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.

From €37,990 ex. VAT

Maxus has launched the eDeliver 5 in Europe, with prices starting at €37,990 ex. VAT in Belgium. The only available optional extra is metallic paint, which costs €650 ex. VAT. The first models are coming to the dealerships, with customer vehicles presumably coming in early 2025.
