The Audi A6 e-tron has become almost €12,000 cheaper overnight thanks to the introduction of a new entry-level model with a ‘smaller’ 83 kWh battery. This makes the A6 e-tron cheaper than its direct rivals, the BMW i5, and Mercedes EQE, while still offering a very reasonable 627 km WLTP range.
At its launch, the Audi A6 e-tron Sportback and Avant were only available with the largest battery option, a 100 kWh pack, of which 94.9 kWh is usable. Now, the electric saloon and station wagon follow the technically related Q6 e-tron example by introducing a new, smaller battery to offer a much lower starting price.
Almost €12,000 cheaper
Whereas the Audi A6 e-tron Sportback Performance’s starting price was €76,800, the new, nameless entry-level version is available from €64,900 in Belgium (€66,550 for the Avant), a difference of almost €12,000.
That makes the A6 e-tron much more competitively priced than the BMW i5 (from €73,700) and the Mercedes EQE (from €71,390), even after the latter’s price cut to boost dwindling sales.
Still over 600 km range
But it’s not like the base model Audi A6 e-tron lacks performance for the price. The new 83 kWh battery (75.8 kWh net) still offers a WLTP range of up to 627 km (598 km for the Avant), while the rear-mounted 240-kW (320-hp) motor sends the large saloon/station wagon from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds flat.
The 800 V architecture still allows for very quick, fast-charging stops. The maximum DC charging output is 225 kW, which recoups up to 260 km of range in 10 minutes and gets the battery from 10 to 80 percent charge in 21 minutes.
The new Audi A6 e-tron Sportback and Avant variants are now available to order.
