Chargemap Pass now compatible with Tesla Superchargers across EU

Chargemap is the first EV charging platform to gain compatibility with Tesla’s supercharger network. Users of the Chargemap Pass can now charge directly at almost every Supercharger in Europe with the same account they use for any other charger, but there are some caveats.

After an initial trial run in France, Chargemap extended the compatibility of its Pass to most European countries, including Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. This means that customers can access 1,000 Supercharger locations across Europe without splitting their bills across multiple payment services.

Tesla app required

But there are a few asterisks with this compatibility. For starters, Tesla’s Superchargers still require you to use the Tesla app, even if you don’t drive a Tesla. Customers have to set up the Chargemap Pass as the primary payment method within the Tesla app, after which the invoices will land in their Chargemap account.

However, to find compatible Tesla Superchargers with the Chargemap Pass, users must search for them through the Chargemap app, filter for ‘Compatible with Chargemap Pass’ charging stations, and select the Supercharger network only.

However, Tesla drivers and Tesla subscription users may not want to use the Chargemap Pass to pay for their Supercharging sessions. The preferential rates for Tesla customers do not apply when using the Chargemap Pass, meaning you’ll pay more for the same charger when using the Pass than when going through Tesla directly.

Supercharger network expansion slowed down

Tesla opened its Superchargers for non-Tesla vehicles in 2022, allowing a broader market of EV drivers to use the handily placed fast chargers across Europe. The Supercharger network saw a rapid expansion in the last decade. Still, earlier this year, CEO Elon Musk laid off most of the Supercharger team, figuring that the coverage is now almost sufficient.
